ATB husbandry Q's

pimp_n_python Jan 30, 2004 02:24 PM

O.k. I've got my tank up and running I still have a few Q's relating to the husbandry.

my floor temps are hot side 80 cool side 70 i know i need to bring those up a little
my "tree" temp levels are an all around average of 80
my main problem is the humidity
it drops as low as 60 on the floor and only ever gets up to about 70
the higher up I go in my tank the more humid it gets
at the highest point that the animal can sit at it averages out at about a steady 80 never reaching much higher
I have been misting every 6 hours during the day and don't mist for 10 hours during the night

my questions are
is the lower hummidity on the floor going to cause problems?
is the ambiant hummidity ok??
how is my overall temp and hummidity and what should I try to change b4 getting my ATB??
I'm a newbie with ATB's so tolerate my ignorance please

Personally I think that's fine... From what I've experienced with my ammy's and from what i've read (countering opinions please be posted because im certainly not an "Expert" ammys need high humidity in "bursts" and then dry out periods... so 60% average humidity is fine... with multiple daily mistings that bring the humidity up to 100%... then let the humidity fall back down to 60% again... living up in the canopy of the rainforest... yeah the ammys get rained on but there must be heavy drafts of air that "dry" (really relative term here) out the air and upper levels of the canopy.
I haven't kept ammys for as long as others (7 months) but I have maintained this high humidity then drying out cycle and it works well... perfect sheds and all. Aeration is really key though... no one wants to breath in nasty moldy air.
Hope I was a bit of help.

how many times a day should i let the hummidity rise and fall??

now i've got the hummidity all correct but i'm haveing a real problem with moisture build up
what way can i help get better air flow??

I have a vent near the bottom and i've drilled a few holes in the very top but it doesn't seem to be helping that much
maybe i need some more holes??

The more holes the better.... even if your over all humidity drops a bit.
A misting cycle 2-3 times a day is enough... depending on the amount of ventilation (and substrate)it usually takes anywhere from 3-6 hours to "dry out"... So once in the morning once when you get home from school/work then before bed... And if you miss a misting it's not a big deal... And I usually don't spray extra for sheds either... the normal procedure works fine all the time... Sheds are always perfect.
Good luck.

And for kicks a pic.
