is copper pipe gonna harm snakes?

is copper pipe going to kill/harm my snakes? i built a stand for a piece of slate floor tile and it can work and everything it wont be atatched to the cage at all and they wouldnt be able to get into the piping, im just worried about the smell of the copper or anything in copper that can effect them? any help is appreciated...i was thinking on just using PVC piping instead to be on the safe side
