help think WTF might have red legs

speterturtle Jan 30, 2004 03:04 PM

Lately my frog has been very very lazy. Normally when given him a cricket he would just eat in within a minute or so. Recently i attempted to feed him. I feed him daily a cricket. He only has eating 1 out of the 4 crickets. The 3 uneaten are dead.

When handling him, he becomes bloody like. It looks like he is internally bleeding. All he does now is sleep at the top corner of the tank. Which is normal but he does it 24/7 now. The white tree frog is more then 1 year old. He used to croak not anymore. I've had him 8 months just about in a plastic tank alone.

Are these signs of Red legs? Anyone with suggestions on how to cure this? Oh yea the redness started about a month ago.

P.S. There is some discoloration and damage like done to his nose.

Thanks in advance
Peter

what are your tank specs? eg- temps, humidity, enclosure size, water area, how clean is your enclosure?

the sctrachs/bruises on the snout is an abrasion from him trying to escape his enclosure, they do this when they are not happy about something within the enclosure.

lethargacy is number 1 symptom of red-leg, and burst blood vessels in the ventral/belly area is a symptom also. i would take him to a vet ASAP, and make sure he stays in his own tank, away from the others.

Well i just cleaned the tank today. Once i put him in he tried to make a run for it. I guess your right about him not liking the tank. Well my setup is simple and cheap. its a 3 gal tank, nice water dish, pet lamp. Vent on top. Its all plastic. He has been in their for a good 8 months and started to act up last month. Not sure whats going on. I posted up a pick of him when he got all bloody. * look below*

is this a red-legs?

You do realize this is a tree frog, dont ya hun? A 3 gallon plastic tank is WAY too small. The reason he was croaking was probably because your setup was better then the pet stores was. But love, this frog needs atleast a 20 Gallon tank. Whites Tree Frogs need to SPREAD and jump ALOT. The reaosn the Frog has redleg(which he most definately does if hes all bloody looking) is because of the lack of ventilation in the tnak, the crampped spaces, the stress from the frog not wanting to be nin the tiny space and the lack of sanitary conditions for him. Reptiles need to be clean, and need to have a clean house, only we can provide for them. Ill let the rest of the forum members take over on this one, but they will all tell you the same thing i did. Good luck to the froggy.

doesn't look good. i can see why your frog has been infected by this disease, your cage specs aren't good. you NEED to take your frog to a vet ASAP. and read up on the proper care of WTF's. i have a care sheet of WTF's on my site, read it!

hope all goes well, luke z
