I just read that some types of args are considered what they call "Choacan". Does this just mean a solid white head? What about this little guy? Do you think this guys is a choacan or is there a genetic difference?

how old is he? when he sheds he'll gain more color. a friend of mine has 3 from bert and i have one, they actually have mud stained into their skin and when they shed they lose the dull color and brighten. good luck, justin
From what I understand Choacan is a regional term. The ones from there do have white heads. There are also white headed tegus from other areas. Yours does look like a white headed tegu BTW.
i thought that mine wasnt, wow. i didnt think he sold chacoans cuz mine was a little gold brownish on the head, but hes been gettin whiter around mouth and the sides of the head. i thought this was cause they were stained with mud. do you know if this is the only bw tegu he sells (chacoan)? thanks, justin
so he sells white headed tegus but not chacoans?
If you're talking about Bert; when I corresponded with him he seemed to imply his weren't chacoan but they were white headed. Although I think some people use the term to refer to all white headed tegus. I wouldn’t be able to tell a regular white headed from a chacoan. There are black headed tegus too but I'm not aware of anyone hanging out around here that has them except for maybe the St. Pierre's.
Santiago is what the St .Pierre Call Chacoan. Which means Theyt come from the Choco area of ( Agentina)South America.THis is a savanna typ place in Argetina- paruguay Brazil- Uragauy . ( man I cant spell). Russ
thanks, ive always thought white headed tegus were chacoans.
Actually Bert has a few in his breeding stock(black headeds). I think I even have one but wont be able to tell properly until after he comes out of hibernation and sheds.
