Confusion about heating! Please help!!

Skyclad Jan 30, 2004 04:01 PM

Hi, I just bought a Ruthven King, it's a baby, maybe a month old. I had read that using a heating pad would be fine for heating half the tank. The pet shop guy told me not to use a heating pad and to use a heating lamp with an ESU 100 watt bulb. Is this good enough to use? I have the light beaming down only on one side of the tank. Note: It's a 10 gallon tank.

Ive used those heating pads for years with no troubles. I did however when it got cold put a low wattage bulb on the tank. For a 10 gallon nothing more than a 60 watt. So I would dump the 100 watt as thats a little to much for a 10 gallon.

i agree with keith...cause he knows all...plus i think the pet shop guy just wants you to spend more money on a lamp and a bulb then just a heat pad that u ALREADY have...not to say a heat lamp when it is extra cold outside is a good idea(cause i have both on right now...

and that would make it safer for your snake to have the correct temps..
