POLL At what resolution do you run your screen?

georgio Jun 07, 2003 11:41 AM

I am building a website (for Bearded Dragons and Uromastyx) and want to know what to resolution to optimize it for. At this point I am leaning towards 800x600 to be more universal but it seems more and more people are running at higher resolutions these days. Would 1024x768 be more applicable? Please let me know.

Thanks,

Peter

To be honest, there is no set resolution. Since practicly all users have more then one pc now and days, usually older and newer ones so the resolution can differe temendously with audiance. For instance, this pc i'm on now runs a 1024X768 On my other pc i runa much higher res... So it can't really be judge... and there really is no avergae, its user prefferance... So go with whats good for you.. I think standard html/flash/php is 1024X768..

I run at 1024x768. Most people seem to perfer this resolution now though 10 years ago you would be hard pressed to find anybody running at that resolution. I think you would be safe to ultimize your webpage for that level of resolution. I would also keep in mind that there are still alot of people running at lower resolution so try and design your webpage to look good at 800x600 as well.

However I can't stand to browse at full screen I think the browser windows I have are all at about 1024x768. I tend to have more than one thing open

Industry standard is to design for 800 X 600. If you design using a "fluid" method (tables set in percentages instead of pixel widths) then you can design for 800 X 600 and still take advantage of the larger resolutions screens as the design will expand to fill the screen.

I use 1280x1024 on my home pc (new), 1024x768 at work (2 years old), although they both use 17" monitors. You're probably good for a while with the latter.
