Help feeding baby snake!

Lucio Jan 30, 2004 05:25 PM

I just got a baby grey banded kingsnake at the Midwest Reptile Show and doing some research am discovering that these guys can be picky feeders. The guy that sold him to me assured me he was feeding on frozen pinkies, but I'm still worried. How often should I attempt feeding pinkies and how long before I should really start worrying and switch to a different strategy if any? Anyone ever try using those Lizard Maker droplets? Would that help?

How long have you had him, and has he just not eaten at all?
How little is he, and does he LOOK like he's been feeding well on pinks? I have a little king that a breeder/friend gave me because he had not eaten at all and he didn't have the time to mess with him any more. After weeks of trying to offer him decapitated (headless) pinks, I finally got him to eat just a pinky head last week. Actually, he is small enough that the head was a pretty good meal. I cut the head off, put it into a deli cup, and sorta squeezed the head until some brain goo came out the neck. That did it. He ate for a second time yesterday.
He seems to really like the scent of the brains...It triggers a feeding response even though the little guy still has a hard time figuring out that he's supposed to eat the head. He opens his mouth and bites at the bottom of the deli cup where the goo spilled out. Eventually, he eats. Good luck. Duffy
