albino hypo tangerine leopard geckos

fredd Jun 07, 2003 11:57 AM

I am a high school biology teacher who has a male albino hypo tangerine leopard gecko. I am looking for one more male to go with the three females I have. One of which is an albino, but she is more yellow than, hypo tangerine. I am planning on using the leopards to teach mendelian genetics and various other topics. I want a hypo tangerine male though, does anyone know of an individual who has a male or that breeds these. Also, come this fall, I will be looking to purchase 10-15 hypo tangerine/ carrot tails as well. So if you know of someone with great looking specimens let me know.

One male is plenty to impregnate three females.

You know, fruit flies would be a lot cheaper. A nice male hypo tangerine albino will probably run you in the neighborhood of $1,000. Probably not a good idea to keep in a high school classroom.

But then it sounds like you are more interested in breeding to sell than in "teaching Mendelian genetics". There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I think you will get a better response if you are honest about your motives.

If you are not going to answer the questions I posted, don't respond. Also, just a word of advice, don't presume to know that motives of people that you don't even know. Let me ask you something, which would leave a more lasting impression: working with fruit flies, or actually taking part in feeding, reporting data, graphing data, using temp. values to predict sex probabilities, using punnett square to predict theoretical genotypes versus actual genotypes, and lastly using pictures to display phenotypes of leopard geckos. Just to let you know, I won a grant from the National Science Teachers of America to run this program of mine. So before you pop off about questioning someones motives maybe you should consider that of the 180 grant applicants submitted(by science teachers across the nation), my idea was considered worthy of being awarded money from a national agency like the NSTA. Yes I am guilty of doing two things I love with this idea of mine. Those two things are reptiles, and teaching science to kids. If you don't want to help me in this that is fine, but next time stick to the questions answered, unless there is an abuse, and leave it at that.

Mea culpa. It sounded suspicious...and we have had a number of people coming on here claiming to be doing something noble who turned out to be real world-class creeps. I'm sorry if I jumped the gun in classing you with them. A grant? Pretty sweet deal. Out of curiousity, what happens to all these valuable high end geckos you will purchase and produce when your project is over?

In any case, it should be very fun and interesting for your students. Leopard geckos are much cuter than fruit flies, and watching them hatch for the first time is...exhilarating.

I will try to help you. Hypo tangerine albinos are a very new morph and availablity is extremely limited. You may have difficulty finding an adult male, finding one hatched this season should be much easier.

People who are working with this morph include Ray Hine

as well as smaller breeders such as myself and some others who frequent on this forum. I do not have any adult hypotang albino males that are for sale though I may have some juvvie males available later this season.

check here, www.masterpiecegeckos.com Nice morphs there.

I understand why Starling posted her message. I also agree that leopard geckos would be an awesome teaching tool; congratulations for receiving the grant!

What I don't understand is why you need such expensive morphs when you can do the same with much, much less expensive morphs. I see that your grant was $2500, so you won't be buying 8 high end 'hybinos' and 10-15 HCTs. Are they for the project as well? What will happen to the offspring of the geckos; who will get the profits, or will the offspring go to the students/yourself? This is why you're likely to get static about this message from this forum. People who come here LOVE these geckos and don't like to see people come in and ask how to make a quick buck, often to the detriment of the animals.

To answer your question on where to find these animals, just go to the forum sponsors up top and the breeders list on the front page of Kingsnake.com. You're bound to find what you're looking for. Hopefully you've been reading the forums for a while, becuase you can learn a lot from others here about leopard gecko genetics that you can pass on to your students.

Something else to try, and someone did it here earlier this year (Jeff Medley, I think), is contact some breeders about donations of their geckos. You may be able to keep down your costs that way.

Please come back on here later on and let us know how it goes with the project, I'm sure someone will be real interested.

All he asked for were names of reputable breeders that may have what he is looking for. He didn't ask for free geckos, or even discounted geckos. It isn't any of our business what morph he wants to buy for his class, nor what he plans to do with the offspring. Relax, answer the mans questions if you can, and save the detective crap for the B O I.
My two cents, keep the change.

ROI3IN Jun 07, 2003 11:59 PM

if you are looking for trempers i would say contadct K and N reptiles, they have some really killer ones for reasonable prices, i think the website addy is www.albinogecko.com or A and M gecko, i think a and m or maybe both i dont know for sure, use the "tremper incubation method".
for rainwater tang albinos i would contact jonathan from SFgeckos. he has some killer rainwater tangs
