I was thinking you could buy a regular water fountain pump and just poke holes in the tubing and have a plug at the end. Does anybody think this could work?

I have seen people do this to make a moisture wall on the back of their terrarium to keep the humidity level high, but I don't think this would be likely to make "rain" quite like you would want.
A misting system might be more of what you are looking for. The prices are pretty high for commercial systems, but contact me off the forum for a cheaper solution.
