what a horrible feeding experience..

Rayquaza Jan 31, 2004 08:26 AM

Ive had my carpet for about a week and a half and decided it was time to feed him..I was told he eats fuzzy mice but the pet store didnt have any so I got a pinkie rat..Well he wouldnt eat it and the poor thing sat in his cage squirming and squeaking. I felt so bad. I know you all are going to think Im a wimp but I was suprised it bothered me so much..It doesnt bother me at all to feed my ball grown rats but for some reason this little helpless pinkie was really difficult. If I order frozen do they only come in large 100 paks. It seems they will get freezer burned before I can feed them all to him not to mention wont he grow out of them ..I was going to make a euthinasia tank for the live ones but havent had time to get a co2 tank yet. I thought about thumping the poor little thing but thats like jumping off a cliff I just cant make myself do it..Please not too many flames here...

I drove for an hour and a half to the pet store today and got him a fuzzy mouse and when he wouldnt touch it I did what was suggested down the thread here and hit him with it a few times till he got pissed off and struck at it then he promptly ate it...What great advice..in case anyone cares

Aww man, don't worry about feeling bad, I feel the same way, that's why I feed frozen. The first time I bought a cute little fuzzy with closed eyes, I felt so bad for throwing it to the snake. But then I just realized that that's natures way, and life goes on. So my advice to you is this, find a local pet shop that sells frozen rodents, and buy them in incriments of ten or so at a time, this way they won't go bad in your freezer. There is no place that I know of that sells them in incriments of less than 100 for pinkies, frozen. So you can either, get more snakes or pay a little more for the frozen rodents at the local petshop, then you would locally.

Good luck!

but you have to call them direct. You will still pay a pretty penny for shipping, but it could work out to less than the amount per mouse/rat that you pay now. You also might want to invest in a trip to a reptile show in your area, most, if not all shows have frozen (and live) rodent sellers there.

At least I don't think...
I think they sell one bag minimum orders only, now.

My jcp/ccp is about the same size as yours. How often and what size do you feed it..I am a major newbie so I need all the help I can get. I figured about a fussy a week but it does seem like enough to me. Should I be feeding him more or less.

RalphSnakeMan Feb 01, 2004 10:11 PM

I would think that 1 fuzzie a week should be sufficent for a JCP/CCP of that size. I used to sometimes offer a F/T pink to him, after he had eaten the fuzzie, but considering he no longer eats off the tongs, it's just 1 F/T fuzzie a week.

Good Luck!

I've ordered from them twice now and am very pleased with the service and the quality of the rats. They don't have minimum order sizes, but again shipping is always expensive. With the packages only holding 25 fuzzies per and being vacuum-sealed they seem to last pretty well...

Here is the adress for anyone who might be interested
