question about placement of heatlamp

oneboringguy71 Jun 07, 2003 12:54 PM

hi all i am new to this so please forgive me if i sound stupid . i have a 36x18x12 high tank . on one side i have a cave which Al hides . in the center i have a 75 watt zoo med nocturnal heat lamp on top of screen . i also have a vine for him to crawal on . on the other side i have a water dish and a slab of rock , not a heatrock , on the same side i have a uth which heats the rock . i use repti bark as a substrate .now here is the question . a friend of my wife comes over and moves the heatlamp above Al's cave . the temp is about 82-84 degrees . i have felt the cave and it is not hot but warm to the touch . will this hurt Al or not ? will this not act like a heatrock ? i have left it like this and he seems to be ok . i just need to see if it is ok from someone with more experience than me .

There should be a warm end and a cool end. Al knows where he needs to be. You might also want a hide at both ends.
