Is the Rheostat OK? - Paradisio or Anyone Else - Follow-Up Question

livXpreshun Jan 31, 2004 10:22 AM

Well, after asking if it was ok to use the plastic sweater boxes and getting the go ahead (and remembering it from a book I have) I am going to switch to the plastic cages. I purchased the 28 qt sterilite containers and drilled holes along the top ridge and also cut out a rectangle in the lid approx 6" x 12" and replaced it with aluminum screen for ventilation.

The follow up question is to a reply made by Paradisio where she said I needed to purchase a thermostat for the two cobra heat mats I will use. My question is, I already have a rheostat that I use and check to make sure the temps are correct. StinaUIUC comented on a thermostat or rheostat so I assume it will be fine, but want to make sure. Any advice would be appreciated, and if your advice is to get a thermostat, then recommendations on type (quality but low price) would be great! Thank you.

A thermostat would certainly be better...because it will turn the mats off as soon as they get too hot. However I think a rheostat would be fine as well as long as you checked the temps once or twice a day and the temp in the room is fairly stable. I'm really no expert...but this is basically what I've heard.

Either should work, they basically are the same one turns it off and one regulates power, except thermostats are usually cheaper it seems.

And since when am I intelligent on this board?
