Is there another name for Ghost Emory rat snake?.....

munchkins Jan 31, 2004 10:36 AM

I bought a ghost emory ratsnake last fall at MARS. I love him, he is just so calm, even though he was a hatchling at the time, and of course he is beautiful. I will definitely be interested in getting another one this fall, also. Is there another name for this color? And can anyone tell me what to breed to get this color? Thanks for any help.

Other name that this snake goes by is the Great Plains Rat Snake. Most of the time the word "Ghost is used in the names of Corn Snakes that are both hypomelanistic and anerythristic with softer, muted coloration.

This snake is from B.H.B. Enterprises. He is a soft, kind of olive green color. No blacks or grays on him at all.

There is no morph commonly called "ghost" when it comes to pure Emory ratsnakes. I'd suggest posting (or emailing me in case I miss the post) me an image of the snake in question.

in looking at some photos from SMR, it does seem to be close to that color. I have just taken pix of the snakes tonight and will get them developed soon.

The SMR/Boyd line of hypo "Emoryi" are yellow-brown. Is that the color of yours? That line has short, stubby tails, and squat heads....at least all of the ones I've seen fit that description. I bought all of Don's a couple of months ago.

He has green, not the brown/yellow. And he is only a baby, so I can't tell about his head or tail yet. But I plan to go get the pix developed tonight and put onto a disk, so I should be able to post the pix tonight, barring any complications at Ritz Camera. And I hope that the color comes out right. I was looking at your photo gallery, hoping to see pix last night, but as you undoubtedly know, it is still under construction.

It seems to reflect his true colors. He is definitely greenish, not brown or yellow. Kind of an olive green.

That is the line that T. Wilstead started and then sold off to B. Mitchell. It is NOT allelic with the line that C. Boyd sold to D. Soderberg.
