Should i get a under tank heater?

leopardgeckoman Jan 31, 2004 01:28 PM

Hey i am looking for some opinions for this subject. My house is always kept at 75ºF. I use a a 60 watt clear bulb and the temp gets to about 86ºF. But whenever i hold the gecko his underside is always cool ( she doesnt go in the hides on the heated side though). If i got a undertank heater how much would it raise the temp and could i still keep the 60 watt bulb on to warm the air.

That would depend on the subtrate used in your cage and the size of the cage and heat mat.

Leopard Geckos need belly heat in order to keep their metabolism, immune system and digestive system functioning properly. In the wild, they do not utilize overhead heat because they do not come out during the day.
