The only pythons lacking heat pits are womas and blackheaded pythons.

Thanks n/p. I am going to get a pair of 2004 jungles at the Daytona Reptile show in August. I can't wait and I really look forward to that show. Jungle Carpets will be my first python. also they will be my first python breeding attempt when they get old enough for that.

That's exciting! I hope to get a pair or two of jungles this summer as well. I have IJ's right now, but have never had jungles. Good luck, and hopefully not too far down the road we'll both be producing some killer jungles!

Yeap I also love the jaguar jungle carpets too but they still are kind of high. One day I would like to have some pairs of jaguars and breed them also.

All pythons except womas and blackheads have pits, but even they are thought to be sensitive to thermal cues. This hypothesis arose because several boa species that lack pits or are variable, such as boa constrictors and anacondas, have been found to be sensitive.

Cool, its interesting to me how they can find their prey in the dark I wander if the pits on the jungle carpet pythons enable them to see like the outline of the warm blooded prey they are after.it kind of gives them the evolutionary edge in a way when it comes to finding food.

Right now we believe that pit vipers and boids "image" infrared information similar to what infrared goggles do. Further, the nerve structures of both the visual (eyes) system and the infrared system merge before entering the brain. This suggests that they are simultaneously combining visual and infrared images. This gives these snakes a great edge in seeking food, locating potential predators, and locating shelter and basking sites.
