Foster is a madman!!

Mattman Jan 31, 2004 03:50 PM

Well, Foster seemed to have come out of brumation roaring to go. He is non stop black bearded and bobbing And if he happens to get a glimpse of the women, watch out he flies across the room to get to them LOL. He's not to hot on eating though. Is this normal for dragons just coming out of brumation to be a little slow at getting back their appetites or is it just Fosters preoccupation with the ladies? I got a stool sample in for him, and it's a go for him which is great. Just got to block his veiw of the ladies so he can start eating a bit more. Candy is just rising as well, and is just starting to eat so her sample is yet to be checked, but it was clean 3 months ago before brumation, and she has not lost much weight through it at all so that looks good. Well, I got my fingers crossed anyway

This is Foster catching a glimpse of the younger girls in this pic. I took the pic as he's running down the back of the recliner just about to leap off the arm of the chair on to the table by the sub adult females enclosures. He's quite the animal!!! Hehe

And a pic of Fosters future honey Candy after her first bath out of brumation.... No luck on the sample though.. Oh well next time.

Wow beatiful dragons, can I have one? I'd love to see the babies.

If all goes well, I will have quite a few babies from these two. When the time comes for them to be sold they will be listed on my website, as well as a few listed through the classifieds here on kingsnake. Thanks a lot.

Looking great Mattman.. you're gonna have some really nice babies from those too. Yea, it's normal for them to take a little while to get going right after brumation... they should perk up pretty fast. Foster right now is more interested in the breeding than the food... so if he can constantly see the females block his view.

In our old setup I had to tape newspaper to Ceasar's cage so he could not see out at the females. Once I did that, within a few days he calmed down and went back to eating more routinely.

Just keep an eye out on his weight. As long as he's not losing much weight you're good to go.

Thanks Brandon.. Yeah I'm hoping for a few nice babies from this pairing. I just pray for healthy, large robust babies like little Foster was. Really excited about the whole thing though. Feels like I waited so long watching them grow up, and mature to breeding age.
Foster actually faired pretty well through his brumation. He started at 760 which was a bit heavy I think even for his length, but he lost only 20 grams through a three month long brumation. Mostly water weight I think cause even though he has not eaten much he has gained back a bit of the weight lost. I actually have the males all stacked and the females stacked next to them. He only gets to see them if I bring one out, or bring him out, but I did cover up his cage and Buddy's yesterday with a sheet. Hopefully he'll settle down a bit and start eating regularly. Candy also held her weight well through brumation, and turned out even larger then my German Giant so she definitely gets the honors LOL of having a shot at Foster. We'll see, but I can't wait for quite a few breeders babies to be born. Like yourself. Thanks for the complement and suggestions Brandon. Oh I got my incubator done, and got the thermostat pinned at 84-84.5 for the last week, and the humidity nice and high. So that good to go. Thanks for the help with that.

Sure man, you are welcome. Glad to hear the incubator is doing good for you. You'll love it I love ours.. wouldn't trade it for anything. Foster and Candy did do quite well through brumation so that's a really good sign. She should drop a lot of eggs for you.

Let me know how it goes and when I can expect a baby

BTW, checked out the website.. looks great.
