What is a good substrate for BP's? How do you get 60% humidity, Can I use moss? what are the substrates you cant use?

stay away from pine and cedar.

best substrate - that's debatable. popular choices: cypress, newspaper, reptile carpet, reptibark....

i like carpet (i use Lizard Liner, it's a green felt like carpet) becaues it looks more natural than newspaper. I keep 2 pieces and change them out weekly (cleaning and disinfecting the old). newspaper is cheap and easy to clean - a popular choice, especially for those with many snakes. if you use a loose substrate than you have to feed outside the cage to avoid impaction.

many use spaghum moss in a humid hide in their cages - makes for a nice hide, ups humidity and helps with sheds. my bp won't use one so it is of no use to me.

there are many ways to up humidity (if you plan on using a tank/aquarium you will more than likely need to use at least one method):

second water dish on warm side
misting daily
humid hide on warm side
cover part of top
tropic-aire humidifier w/ air pump
repti-flo with pump

i found some humidity pads at drfostersmith.com
heard good things about them.

i have a caresheet i can email you if you want. full of tips i've been given on various forums. just email me.

i use sand on one half and turf on the other.turf is good to keep the moisture high, because it absorbs water.
u can take a look at my photo i added in "Ball will not eat any suggestions for a long time corn owner? n/p" conversation!
to keep high moisture you can just spray water on the substrate which helps too!
i do this every day!

I use compressed coconut fiber. The kind that comes in a brick, and then you soak it in warm water to get it to expand. I use that, and let it dry out a day, then I put it in the tank. Works great... very easy to clean, safe for snake to digest in case he gets some in his mouth.
