Black spot on Panther Chameleon

bpggilman Jan 31, 2004 04:02 PM

I've had a red bar ambanja panther chameleon since august and just recently he got this weird black spot on his side. He didn't shed the skin from that area on his last shed, and I was wondering what this is or if it's really anything major at all. It doesn't seem to be affecting him much. He's still active and eating and drinking like normal. Just wanted to see if anybody can give me some suggestions before I take him to the vet. I'll send a pic if you want to see it. Thanks.

Sounds to me like it may be a thermal burn. Is there gray around
the edges? I would still take him to the vet, as it is hard
to tell without pictures and more info. It could be a healed
wound also.

It would be strange to think that it's a wound. It just kinda showed up one day. I use a deli cup for feeding so it's not an insect bite of any kind I don't think, and I can't imagine him hurting himself inside his cage. It's possible it could be a burn, but my basking spot is usually around 92 degrees. The whole thing is kind of a dark gray (probably because of unshed skin also) and the colors just outside of the area are unusually bright. For instance, the space in between the bars just outside of the spot is orange now, and the little area just outside the spot in the actual bars is a brighter red than usual. If you give me your e-mail I'll send you a few pics so you can see, or you can tell me how to post a picture on these messages (I'm a newbie here). Thanks.
