cricket question

jollyfat Jan 31, 2004 04:30 PM

To those of you who feed crickets to your leos, do you buy the crix in bulk quantities? If so, what do you house them in? And how do you transfer, say 2-3 for a feeding, from one tank to another?

The alternative (which I am doing now) is buying 10-15 from the pet store every week, which seems kind of inefficient. Thanks for your help.

I'm new to this but I get my crickets weekly. I keep them in a large, airy, plastic container with strips of egg cartons inside.

I feed them fish flakes and occassionally bits of fruit. I also have water in there. Seems to keep them spritely.

I also dust them in supplements every other day.

I suggest that you dont put water into your crickets cage because they drown themselves. thats why i use calcium gutload.

The way i do it is buy 50 medium sized crickets from the pet store because it is cheaper that way and i have more animals i have to feed. About how to house them i just put the large crickets i get for my frogs in a coffee can container. and for the medium sized i put them in a rubber maid container about 9"x9" ( can be less they are just crickets...) but make sure u can have either gutload (calcium) or a potatoe or even a carrot can go in. and to transfer them i just pick em up on ne part of their body ( dont by the attenas because they fall off, also some legs can fall off) and i put some of em in calcium dust before i feed them. But u should have ur crickets with some type of moisture and food for about 48 so that they get nutrience in them because some pet stores dont bother to put ne type of nutrience in their cage.

you should be feeding your leo more than that. I have feed my 9 month old leo 5-10 small-medium crickets a day since he was 6 months.I go through about 4 dozen crickets a week.

Thanks for the tips. Roachey, if you were speaking to me, I just got my leo a little more than a week ago and he/she's still getting used to the new place. It just started eating a cricket or two a couple days ago. I wish it would eat more!

LeopardGeckoMan, do you mean you just reach in and grab them with your fingers?
