SIAMESE Chamaeleo Hoehnelli

rkreptiles Jan 31, 2004 06:04 PM

Hey everyone. This little SIAMESE Twin Chamaeleo Hoehnelli was born yesterday. Unfortunately it broke free of the embryonic sac and then died. This is the first SIAMESE I have had in any species of CHameleoens. We have had twins before in egg layers but nothing like this. Take a look at the pictures and see what you think.

Rob,
Nice pictures! That's crazy! I was wondering if that stuff happened much and we had a discussion about it in the chat a few weeks ago. I've got a 7 month old panther egg I'm thinking is going to be twins (double the size of normal or even bigger) so this is getting me even more excited. Are you going to preserve it somehow?

As of now I have it wrapped in celophane in the freezer. I havenot figured out how to exactly preserve it well but I want to for sure.

Put it in a small glass jar like a spice jar, then fill it up with rubbing alcohol. Works

I think it is sad BUT interesting!

As for preserving...just a thought - Do you know anyone with a biology or zoology dept. at a local University? I am going to have some caterpillar larva freeze-dried by a mycologist (fungus-guy) next season (long story). So, if they can do it with plants, and larva - why not chams? Of course there is always the formaldehyde option. good luck!

does this have to do anything with inbreeding of chameleons

rkreptiles Feb 01, 2004 07:10 AM

The parents of that baby were Wild Caught and the female arrived gravid so I highly doubt it was from inbreeding.
