What can happen if you feed live prey

psilocybe Jan 31, 2004 07:21 PM

Lately I've seen a few posts by people asking which is better, feeding live or pre-killed/frozen mice. I think this picture will settle the debate. This is a heartbreaking pic, i grabbed it from ProExotics page, and i'm sure they won't mind me posting it here. If the pic doesn't show up, here's the link.

That's what happens if you leave live prey in with your snake unattended. Although there's always a risk of bites no matter how careful you are. However, I haven't seen any correlation between live food and aggression.

the corrilation is that because the snake needs to become a hunter and kill and be more protective of it self. that is the reason for the aggresion. im not sayin it will happn all the the time but it has been known to happen.

Ah... a lot of my snakes aren't terribly bright and think they're killing the f/t mice anyway. I've always thought the 'aggressive' snakes were the smart ones. Um... present company excluded, Tiamat...

Tiamate?

She's my rainbow boa... only eats live food (might be because she can't see too well), and is actually my biggest snake that I can't get switched to f/t. She's also basically my most docile snake. I of course didn't want to insinuate that she wasn't a smart cookie.
