Why are spotted pythons not more popular than they are?

endofshow247 Jan 31, 2004 11:19 PM

I have one spotted python and it is the nicest snake in the world!!
He has only refused one meal and that was during a shed and is absolutely dog tame. They are so beautiful and stay at a managable size it seems like they would be more popular. Guess I just wanted to complain for a minute.

I think they are much more popular than you think. Many breeders have them in their collections, but they aren't really sought after. There are a few varieties as well (i.e. cape york...) but i just dont think they are as prized by collectors because of their small size, and they do not have as much of a color or morph spectrum as say a ball python or a red tailed boa. But i agree on the fact that they are a wonderful animal, docile and beautiful, and man what a feeding response.
thanks for listening,

I was once indifferent towards antaresia. A while back I happened to find a cape york in a specialty shop. She took my breath away and I had to have her. The owner made me a super sweet deal 'cos the animal had been there such a long time and noone ever showed any interest.
Since the day I got her home she's been nothing but joy. Now I gotta find a male!

Wow almost the exact same thing happened to me when I first found my female cape york! I hate to admit it, but when I first entered the specialty store I was looking for young ball pythons. They had just sold all of their balls, but they did recieve a small shipment of colobrids and one baby cape york female. She was mine! A year later I decided to get her a male so I went to the IRBA show in October 2003 and to my amazement there were only 2 males in the entire show. There were many females but only the two males. I picked one up for a third of the price I paid for my female. It pays to go to reptile shows.
