Crested Gecko Shedding Problems

buzzoff Feb 01, 2004 02:42 AM

Hello,
I've got a crested gecko thats about 6 months old or so now and he's shed a couple times, but this time hes having problems. Hes only taken the skin off his head and the rest of him is just covered in dead skin. I'm afraid to do it myself because of the tail dropping issues these geckos have. I've tried everything as well. I raised the humidity, I've given him branches and rocks and everything else possible to rub on, and he even has a dish of water to soak in. He's just being really difficult! Is there anything I can do besides manually taking his skin off? Im really really worried about him dropping his tail..Thanks so much for your time everyone!

do you mist his cage? spray him down good like a few times in an hour then gentley rub-peel his dead skin off. you will not have any problem with him droping his tail if you take it eazy and do it soft.

i'll give it a try, but usually when he sees my hand coming towards him, he starts trying to pinch off his tail. i think he's learned how much it upsets me, heh..
