Defensive egg laying?

lostkauze Feb 01, 2004 08:50 AM

This is my third expiriance with my leo's laying eggs. The loe im concerned with, its her 2nd time. Well, since I'm new to the breeding world, and don't know what to expect, i have a concern. The first time my leo, richard, layed eggs, she did so at night, and i took them in the morning withouth problem. Well this morning, she was laying them, and I watched it happen. She finished, and walked out of the hide box, however, should would rub against it,and walked around it, scratching the ground, then she went back into the hide box, and is digging again. I know she laid all her eggs the first time, and is she doing this because it;s natural, and its what they all do, or could it be that she knows I'm going to take it? Also, when richard was laying her eggs, my other two pregnant female lizards were in the box with her... maybe for support... or to lay their eggs as well.

Is this normal? I'm just making sure I've done everything right. I'm leaving the geckos alone for a bit, and will gather the eggs lunch time-ish.

Thanks for the help!

Michael

Hi

Even though your geckos are captive born, they still have that wild nesting instinct in them to dig a whole to burry there eggs as well as to dig and put some sand over them in the wild.
