Luna ate six adult crix and....

lele Feb 01, 2004 01:47 PM

...two 3/4" long silkies today! What is up with her? I am thinking that when she first went off food, took on receptive coloration, etc. she had not begun forming eggs for quite awhile longer. It has been nearly two months since this all began and she has had a much bigger appetite the last couple weeks - could it be from the MVB and repta-aid?

Should I just let her eat as much as she want - since she is probably eating for 30? LOL!

My veiled, Lola, just laid eggs last week. During the week she laid her eggs she had stopped eating and focused all week on digging. But the week before, she ate tons - she also loved the silkies and ate 2 to 3 in addition to crickets. So, I think it may be a normal way for the cham. to build up enough reserves for the digging.

hey, good to know! Maybe this means she is close as she is just a little piggy! I am letting her have as much as she wants b/c she does turn away when she is finished. And yes, the silkies are becoming a favorite again.

How old was Lola? Had she been bred? could you see the eggs in her belly? I am just seeing her ribs sticking out daf and her belly distended

thanks,
lele and lumpy Luna

Lola is 12 months old. She was bred to Waldo, who is almost 2 years old. I got Waldo as a rescue about 6 months back, so I don't know if he'd been bred before.

Lola's ribs did stick out, and she appeared very bloated. Yes, I could clearly see the outline of two of her eggs just in front of her back legs. Her weight didn't go up too much though - The most she ever weighed as 93 grams. After she laid the eggs she was down to 60 grams - this was after a week of fasting and digging.

Also the week before she became very dark, and I was beginning to worry. She mainly sat in her basking spot all day - and had that look of lying on the branch kindof hunched. I can tell you that after she laid those eggs she almost immediately turned green, and now is looking healthier and eating better than ever.

Oh - one other thing. I thought she was gravid around halloween time after a brief mating with Waldo. That time she laid 5 dead looking eggs - in fact they almost looked like regular white turds, but now that I've seen good eggs I realize they were infertile.

thanks for the info! Everytime I hear someone's experiences it helps in what to expect. Luna has not been bred so I have no time frame in which to judge, but her first food change began in early December...she's small so I hope she doesn't have any problem passing the eggs.

Did you get her from me?
I sold a female veiled to a gentleman and he named her Lola. I tried to e-mail him to answer a question that he had before my computer crashed. He must have changed his e-mail because after I got a new computer when I tried to send a message it would not go through to him. It was the usual my chameleon is getting picky about her food so hopefully he figured it out but I would have liked to answer his question. If it is the one you got from me it is Luna's sister.
