I just noticed it today, what can I do to make it stop shriveling up and dying?! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

This symptoms sounds like dry-gangrene. This is usually caused by external trauma. You will need to get the chameleon to a vet as soon as possible as this is lethal if left un-treated. The vet will most likely need to amputate the necrotic tissue in order to save the rest of the tail. Goodluck

you will have a cycle of drying up, falling off...... a little at a time

the drying and breaking off will not end........ my female had the same issue. I was bad.... never taking it to a vet..... it lasted over a year......... sorry folks.... but i must admit... i didnt do a vet trip.......
