cv768 Feb 01, 2004 04:11 PM

If so, how do you kill the chicks in a humane way???

Also, how beneficial are these to corns and other colubrids???

yes and no........

they are not as "good" as rats and mice and other rodents.....

they stink when they come back out too.........and are messier....

the feet and beak don't digest either..and they lay in the cage and cause a real bad situation....for bacterial buildup..you would have to check cage everyday.and clean the messes up...the feet could make the corn sick...and that could in turn make all the rest sick........(coccydial bacterias.....)...many types...etc etc.....

if you clean alot....go ahead and try some ....

it's not worth the hASSLE FOR A FEW(UNDER 100 SNAKES).........

.....how do I kill?.....at the hatchery...they just throw 500 in a trash bag and tie it shut..dead really quick.......(they throw away 400,000 a week...).and charge a fee to mess with you.....some places will not sell OR give them away..bad press........(male /cockerels....they want female laying hens.so males go out in the trash to the protein reclaiming company I guess..........)...(they get 600,000 female a week.)...

through the years...they have developed their own breed of chicken that is female dominant and they can tell the sex by looking at the tail.......why is this important??////???to sex a chick ...you have to "pop" it..like a snake..and few people are good enough to actually pop a million chicks a week...in 3 days.........they had to pay Asian descended people to do this....and they made alot of money....NOW ...they get anyone to look at the tails..and sex them this way..(cheap,usually female laborers.....).....sorry ,,it's true......

Pa......love that farm mentallity...........cheap cheap cheap........

LOL, how did you know I was going to? Yes, I feed the chicks on occasions. No problems for me yet. The stools are smellier but I don't mind.

To kill a baby chick, take an empty tin can (a soup can works well). Place the edge of the open end on the chicken's neck and press down against a hard surface. It severs the spinal cord.

I think that a few chicks are good for breeder females. I wouldn't make them the staple diet though.
