ball always hungry?

peteralbrian Feb 01, 2004 04:49 PM

he's about 5 months old.. i got him to eat frozen rats from live mice. his set-up is fine and his eating shows this . there is even a black curtain in front of his viraium so that when i am awake till early morning his lights hours still remian unchanged ( neon tube inside cage with timer). i have this setup with most of my snakes. less pleasure for me but better environment for them and thats what counts. ball and boas are noctural anyway so u don;t see them in light.

anyway. he eats a rat hopper every 7 to 10 days but is hungry after just 2 days. the hoppers are larger then full grown mice so i guess they are fine. i don't want to retard his groth cos i think that once full grown he'll eat very little. i had a male kings eating only 4 times a year when full grown and still be healthy and mate.

should i keep feeding as i am? feed not less then every week? more rats?

my may baby ball eats about 1 small rat every other week, never refuses one and I am sure would eat one every week if I let him. maybe it is time to up the size of his meal

Feed him what he'll eat. If the hoppers are the largest size you can feed him, as large as his largest diameter, then try feeding him two at a time. Balls are greedy feeders.
