Breeding Tips...

hhawk20005 Feb 01, 2004 05:13 PM

Hi, i currently have a 38 gram male, and am going to breed him this season. I will be buying a female sometime this week (already grown) to breed him to. Other than the quarentine period, do you have any tips on what i should do... i have read all manuals and whatnot, but most have mixed opinions, and since this will be my first time breeding, i have to start somewhere, and would like to have learned from an experienced/semi experienced breeder. Thank You

There really are no tips..when both are ready (male: 50grams and over. female:60 and over, thats just how i like to do it) all you have to do(if they are in breeding season) put the male into the females tank and monitor them, if they fight then i would suggest fattening up the male a bit more. if not in breeding season..Brumation would do it..brumation has its dangers..it could make the leo sick if there is to much of a change..im sure you probably know what brumation is but i'll explain it if you dont...its when you lower the temps about 15-20% for about 2 months, they'll stop eating for a while and become less active, after those 2 months.. bring the temps back up and after a week start power feeding for 3-4 weeks to get them up to the right weight. when i bred mine..(my albino and snow)..they did it fine..i tried getting my normal female and my SHCT male to breed, she ended up beating the sh~t out of him, that point is just mostly that some females dont want to and are just not ready..i hope yours do breed and you get some stunners...Good Luck
