I was at the Mazuri website looking at the break down of some of their diets. It seems that the rabbit diet might be better for tortoises than the tortoise diet. The rabbit diet has less protein, half the fat, more fiber. It also has more vitamin A, I'm not sure if that is bad or good (I am aware of the effects of large amounts of VT. A on reptiles). The rabbit also has animal protein which may be better for redfoots? I thought this was interesting.

I hunted extensively for people who used the Mazuri Tortoise diet and I spoke at lenth with the people responsible for the development of the diet. I'm not a nutritionist and the more I delve into this don't want to be so I trust the people doing the research. The tortoise diet was formulated for tortoises. To be specific it was formulated for Galapagos tortoises. Now, after trying it for a few years I'm happy with the results I get as is with all species.
If you're willing to experiment you might have stumbled onto something better but you will not know unless you try it for at least a year.
Before you proceed you might want to find out for yourself what is too much protein and/or fiber and try not to base that on someone elses opinion. Then, formulate the diet as you see fit. I have found that the best diets that have ben formulated so far for tortoises are base more on trial and error than on theory.
I think basing a diet on theroy is pretty much impossible in the case of reptiles for the very fact that their metabolism is based on their environment.

There's some spray that they apply to rabbit food which I don't
think is what you want your tortoises eating. I wouldn't use
it.

If you know it's not good for tortoises I would hope you have some idea what it is, other than just some spray. Do you have actual knowledge of this substance or is this just something you heard somewhere? More information please?
