Lighting for my Baby Hermann Tortoise

Becki71 Feb 01, 2004 06:45 PM

I bought a Mercury Vapor Flood lamp from Powersun....I was going to put it in a clamp lamp and place it in one corner of the cage. Is this lamp safe for my baby? I figured it was better since it is the UV and heat in one so I won't have lites hanging all over the place.

The mercury vapor bulbs are great, and should give you enough heat. I wouldn't use them in a clamp lamp, though. They are notorious for failing, and the companies that make them recommend that they hang straight down, and not be moved around. The ZooMed hanging lamp stand works really well with them, and then you can adjust the height if you need to.
