Rescued Bearded Dragon-Help Please

ptgirl Feb 01, 2004 07:39 PM

On Wednesday afternoon I purchased a Bearded Dragon 8 months old. He is from a family whose 13 year old son did not have time for it. I have named him Draco Penndragon. He was in a 10 gallon tank and not handled much. He now has a larger tank but everytime I try to handle him he will only stay a moment and tries to "get away". My major concern is he has not had a bowel movement since I brought him home. I have tried soaking him in warm water a couple of times and feeding him baby food squash. He still has not gone.He doesn't like greens but loves crickets. Another concern is he has a white patch on the end of his tongue. Is that normal? I really wish to make him happy. Any advice you offer will be truly appreciated

The white area on the tip of the tongue is okay, nothing to worry about, it can be black, brown, pink or white, depending on the dragons diet and fluid intake.

Is he eating much? If they are not taking in much food, there is not much to come out either and sounds like from the past his care was not real regular, so I am not surprised his pooing is not either.

Worry when he is eating and nothing is coming out, if that is the case you can give him some warm water soaks to try and encourage him to go... tickle your fingers in the front of the water to try and get him to drink also.

Not all dragons go ever day, babies do, but they change as they get older and during certain seasons, most of my adults are only going 1-2 time a week now and I have one that seem to think saving it will draw interest... but that's just him, he only goes once a week or ten days!

Exercise and fluids will encourage them to go more often, plus a rich green diet, also mistened pellets help them go also.

If you think he might be impacted thats a different story
