Update (big pics)

paradisio Feb 01, 2004 08:03 PM

Decided to do the seperate boxes as suggested so I can monitor them closer.

How does this setup look? I still have to add the water dish, leos and food. Humidity isn't a problem because I live in Houston, and the humidity gets up to 90 anyways lol. And I use T-rex for dusting so no calcium.

Also here is a picture of two of my leos.

Your babies are so cute! And to be honest they really don't look sick. So they could just be slow to warm up to their new surroundings and aren't so quick to pig out. And they are babies! But they are cute and I'm sure you'll be a great parent!!

Looks good and good luck. You can use tops from some larger drinks as water dishes. If you have any little mealie cups they make great hides too if you cut a hole in it.
I hope everything works out for you.

aren't those a bit small?

I guess I could try, I only have about 50 of them lmao...

Right now I am just letting the heat pad... heat up... any idea how long I should let it run?

Sara2 Feb 01, 2004 09:10 PM

Let the heat pad heat up till the temp is steady and isn't changing anymore.
I love the mealie cups for my hatchlings as a moist hide I just put a paper towel peice in it. This is the cup that holds 100 mealies. Here is a pic those are 2 day old babies in the pic.

Oh I only have the 50 ones lol No wonder I think it is small

No place around here I know of sells the 100s

Sara2 Feb 01, 2004 09:19 PM

Yeah you might have the really small ones. They do seem to like to curl up in the small spaces though but I have seen some really small ones that would be to small. I measured the cups I have and they are across the top of it almost 4 inches.

Way to go your setup looks good. Now you will be able to monitor them individually. I want to show you a pic of a Leo I rescued almost a year ago. He was in a privately owned pet shop, there were 2 other leos in the tank with him, both were dead with shed skin hanging off them. He had shed stuck to him and his tail was about as thick as my 1 yr olds pinky. I hate to talk about this cause it makes me sick. I did report thhe pet store, and I am happy to say the last time I was there there was a marked improvement still not perfect but getting there. No dead animals this time at least. I'm telling you this because "Shlep" was way worse than your bright eyed and active babies look. I did't think he would make it but I couldn't leave him to become another corpse. We took him home, and soaked him to get rid of te shed. Fed him small mealies (he didn't eat right away)and basically loved him. Animals need love I hope this doesn't sound mushy. When we feel bad the best thing for us well, I know for me is to have one of my children or my wife cuddle up with me. We took Shlep out every day and held him petted him and talked to him. Not to excess mind you there is a fine line, but consistently, allowing him to be alone of course. Just enough to let him know we cared and were there. WOW, this does sound mushy. He responded beautifully in fact he would come out of his hide when we came into the room and push up to the glass, like he was asking to be held. His eating improved and he packed on weight. He is now a whopping 80g! My second biggest male next to Barney.

Well a pic is worth a thousand words. Did I use that many? He looks kinda flakey right now, a problem I am having with my new house. It is just too dry. Here he is though.

Meet Shleprock!
