I have two new girls!! And a question.

ChuUtena Feb 01, 2004 08:23 PM

I bought two new girls yesterday. In my sig there is a link to my page with all of my pictures of my girls, go to the bottom and look for the HUGE geckos. No mean comments about the small living conditions, they are going to be moved into my home designed tank monday night or Tuesday (depends on how long it takes the sillicone dry) But I got a great deal on these two girls. But that happens when you work at a pet store! Hee hee.

I also have a question. On some website I read it said that leos don't like to be around others too much (not talking about males and males together but more like a large group of females) and something like they aren't used to being around others except when mating. Now I've had my first girl for about 6 months now, bought another one about 2 months ago, another one a month ago (who is gone now, don't ask long story), bought one last week, and then the two large ones yesterday. They are all great together. I know I need to watch them with their eating, but that's normal with multipile leos in one tank. And for the most part, they all stay in the same house together. I just wonder why that site made such a point to say how they don't like to be together, and shouldn't be together a lot. They have 3 hides to be in, and they all stay together. The smallest one will sleep on top of the larger ones and they don't care. Just kinda wondering about any input here. Woah long post! Bye now!

Your Leos look nice but is that baby housed with those adults?
If you are going to house them together you need to put them together acording to size. The smaller ones will have trouble getting food or being dominated and the smallest one may end up as food for one of the big ones from the looks of the size difference.
Also for the babies and juvies you should keep them on papertowls or newspaper, something they can't ingest.

First, you should be quarantining any new geckos you get for at least two months... Also, is that a fat tail in with the leos?...they shouldn't be housed together, fat tails have different requirements from leos. And finally, you should keep leos with huge size differences together, the smaller ones likely won't get enough food, and even if they do, they are likely to get very stressed! Leos of similar size that have been quarentined can be housed together.
