LizardLuva Feb 01, 2004 10:31 PM

Ok i live in Northern Kentucky. A fairly fast moving creek is downhill from my yard, within walking distance. i would like to no how to attract garters in the spring. i have heard of laying a piece of wood on the ground but are there better ways to attract them? thanks

I would try and use a peice of tin or other thin metal as it absorbs heat better than wood.

It depends since I don't mind being bitten I just grab them about mid body, then put them in a sack. If your afraid of being bitten wear some gloves they don't have to be very thick b/c there teeth are so small. when I was little I used to step VERY lightly on therre tail and pick them up by the neck, now that I know they won't kill me I just grab em up.

i catch garters by just grabbing them and puttin em in a snake bag but you may want to look out for the musk
