I would get the leaf tail just because they look so darn cool.A day gecko almost looks and acts like a green anole(but more money).Leaf tails are awesome but exspensive. And it depends if you want a diurnal or nocturnal gecko. You already have one phelsuma right,so get something different.

I keep Uros, and they are very intresting and beautiful geckos...but so are the Phelsuma species. It think that you should give it some time to think about what you really want, Uros are active during night and you really dont see them active that much, they get a lot bigger (henkelis) than most phelsumas and require larger cages. Phelsumas are active during the day and alot of fun to watch and they are to very beautiful geckos, espicially the quadriocellata that you liked. So give i some time and i think you will be able to decide for your self...instead of someone else doing it for you.

Hmmmm....you are aware that both species you list are not among the typical beginner species?
In tendency Phelsuma are easier to keep than Uroplatus. But U. henkeli is about the hardiest Uroplatus and P. quadriocellata is one of the more delicate Phelsuma (somewhat depending on subspecies).
It also depnds on the space available.
I would not keep henkelis in cages smaller than 2 x 3 x 4 ft (I know, people do use smaller cages, But I do not think thats OK. Watch henkelis JUMP from trunk to trunk in bigger cages and you know why) but those for P. quadriocellata may be significantly smaller. Also if your herp room gets very warm in summer, you should not go for Uroplatus of any kind.

ok i'll put all that inot consideration could put a henkeli in a cage the size for a trokay would that be big enough?

ingo Feb 03, 2004 01:38 AM

Yes, any big tall cage is fine.
Henkelis really are the most hariest Uroplates. But still you have to make sure two things: The room must not get too warm in summer and the females do have a very high calcium need. If not carefully supplemented, they lay eggs, lay eggs, lay eggs...and die.

Lint Feb 03, 2004 09:13 PM

if the females lay, lay, lay and lay and then die mabye i'll get the quad instead i wont have to worry about this risk
