I basically have a log of petrified wood which props up some fossiliferous limestone. That limestone collects heat and makes a very very nice basking spot, as well as a nice hidout. there is a water dish. Yes, I use astroturf. They love going under it, but won't touch sand or soil for burrowing. keep it simple man, my males cage has a rock shelter that's low (they love the resrained space, makes them feel safe) and 2 big basking rocks made of limestone. I also use astroturf for him.
o alright i get you...my cage is pretty simple too...i got this kinda wood chip stuff...he seems to like burrowing in there most of the time....i also got this little artificial hideout he likes... a water dish... and this big old black buddha he sits on under the light..it attracks heat and he likes it... so pretty simple...got a couple rocks here and there nothing special... Buddha (his name) is getting used to it
But when i get my next lizard(dont know what its gonna be) ima use astro turf..sounds cool...where can you get something like that?

Good stuff man! yeah, I got both my astroturf mats for 15 bucks at a petstore. they are designed for reptiles...they absorb moisture from when I spray down the cage, and let it out slowly to keep humidity up. They can also be washed (with just water!) and cleaned so easily...they are cheaper than other substrates!!
did you get them at like a petco or petsmart? and can you buy chunks of it and like cut it down? or do you buy specific measurements for like 10 and 20 gallon tanks?
