All the girls are getting along great.......>>>>>>

RedQuake Feb 02, 2004 03:21 PM

Well i finished setting up the 40 gal tank and put in my girls. All of them are getting along great, even sharing hides......actually Dot claimed the coconut hide for her own and spends the most time in it but every now and then one of the others crawls right in there with her.....LOL

Actually the other night Dot and Lily were sharing it (i got pics, i'll post soon) and Dot came out to look around, eat a mealie or two and while she was off Nala stuck her head out from behind the huge log i have, saw Dot was out of the hide and proceeded to climb right in with Lily. I'm absolutely amazed at how they are interacting....i've spent most nights just sitting watching them.

I do have one and only one concern. I have heat pads on each side of the tank so the girls can spread out a bit if they want but the one on the left isn't getting as hot as i'd like....84 range. It was up where it should be but lately its been staying low. I put in my portable UTH (i made one that can be in the tank but not accessable to the geckos except from the top.....to explain i'd need pics and another post to do it but its safe and what was used by Dot and Abby for 2 months before this new tank).

Both UTH that are under the tank are on the same rheostat but have different temps....i do have a brand new mat from Exo Terra and it has a larger surface area (8X8) that i thought i'd just replace the one on the left with. By removing the UTH from the glass this completely kills any chance of using it again right?!?

I'm so glad i put the girls together. They all seem to be more active and happy....they curl up together too....Dot posed for a great pic just AFTER i ran out of film......i'm so mad....it was like she was actually posing...standing completely upright against the log looking at me as if to say, well snap the pic already LOL....

The under tank heaters i'm using are rated 10-20 gal cause the tank was originally split in half for Dot and Abby. The surface area of these pads is only 6" X 8", while the tank is 18" X 36" so theres plenty of room to regulate their temps. I also created a second level out of tile and bricks (All siliconed together for stability and safety).

I'll post pics soon

They don't suggest reusing the heat pads after removing them because of fire hazards. I have moved a heat pad off one tank to another without any issues. I've actually moved 2 or 3 around as well as adjusting existing ones and have never had any problems. I just peel it off carefully making sure I don't snap one of the elements.
