Leopard Gecko Breeding,

LizardLuva Feb 02, 2004 03:37 PM

ok, i am a very responsible teenager and have a place to sell any lizard that i might breed. Now, i have been looking around and talked with my mother about getting a lizard. I have gotten the permission that in a few months i can get a lizard, and if i take good care of em, i can get another for a mate!
Ok so we were at a pet store an my mom fell in love with baby albino leos, she said they looked naked...well thats my mom for yea, but anyways, i was thinkin of getting a pair, i have done my research for some time, i have been looking since last August for the right lizard. Now i have a local reptile expo every month so i plan on buying and selling there.

Ok so heres the question:
I would like to get my first one for around 40-50$, the second, probably cheaper cuz of money and equipment for breeding (Emerg vet bills my mom will take care of); so i wanted to no which color(s) generally fit into these ranges so i can get, different offspring, but no like normal, normal hets for ___, normal doulbles; etc cuz if i have too many it would be impossible to sell. SO whats right for me?

Thanks everyone!

For that price range, I would say you could get a nice little albino or a high yellow, just look around at the various reptile classified sites, like the kingsnake.com classifieds, f a u n a c l a ss i f i e d s . c o m, or r e p t i bi d.c om. Just make sure you get your geckos from a reputible breeder, if you are unsure of a breeder check the board or inquiry at f a u n a c l a s s i f ie d s. c o m. I don't know how the pet shops are around where you live, but based on the pet shops I have around here, I wouldn't suggest buying one there. You said you have local reptile shows every so often, those are great places to buy geckos, just be sure you knwo who you're buying from and that all their geckos look healthy.

Hypo tangs for 35... post the site. Cheapest I've seen for a real hypo is 100.

a young patternless or blizzard in that price range at a show as well.

Remember that what someone calls something is not as important as actual appearance---some people call leos hypotangs that are really just nice reduced spotting normals.

It all depends on the breeder and the gecko. Normals and high yellows will always be under 60 bucks. Patternless, Albinos, Blizzards, Tangs, Carrot tails, or albino tang mixes and what not will be anywhere from 100 to 1500 bucks.

Incubators will cost around 45 bucks, perlite and peat moss, 5 to 10. Tupperware containers for eggs 10 bucks

Then theres caging heating and feeding costs which will vary depending on a lot of factors.

You just need to know what your getting into.
