Teeth in poop!

davidheath Feb 02, 2004 05:27 PM

I have a 3 1/2 yr old male that has been a very picky eater for the last year. He has not eaten in a month or so. Today there was a small poop in his cage that contained at least a dozen teeth. I have never had this happen with any other snake I have owned, and was wondering if it might be malnourished. I am going to try to check his mouth for teeth in the next day or so. has any one ever seen this or had it happen to you.
Thanks for any help,
David

Chondros teeth are shed and replace on a pretty regular basis. All snakes do this......chondros just have larger teeth and are a little more noticable. I wouldn't worry too much.

Alright. I'll try not to worry but he's my baby (my first one ha ha). I am offering him a chick tonight to see if I can get his appetite going again. Thanks for your reply Brandon.

Brandon is correct that snakes do shed teeth regularly. However, I would also consider the possibility that it was a poorly digested mouse and those "teeth" could have actually been mouse ribs. Can't tell for sure without a pic, but just another possibility.
