day gecko shedding problem

My madagascar giant day gecko (phelsuma madagascariensis grangis)has a buid-up of skin left over from his sheds that completely blocks his ear. I have tried removing it with tweezers, but he refuses to be handled, I have tried lubricating it with small amounts of olive oil and baby oil, and i keep his cage very humid. How can i remove this clump of skin?
