Adult Mali Enclosure...This Sound OK?

BrianT Feb 02, 2004 10:39 PM

Gonna start working on an enclosure for an adult pair of mali uromastyx this weekend. I'm planning on making it 4'L x 2' x 2'. This way I can give them about 12" of substrate to play around with. This size sound ok? I'll be sure to post some photos when it's complete.

hey Brian, we are finding that bigger is better with the Uros.

a 4 ft trough works well for a pair of two ft Ackie adults, but you might want to stretch it a bit for a pair of those adult Uros. perhaps a 6 or better.

we started all our Uro babies in 4 ft troughs, and bumped up a couple of the cages to larger sizes, and they immediately saw a jump in growth and health with more space.

i don't know the specifics on it at this point, i just know i want to use as large a cage as is feasible

That's interesting Robyn. Given the size of the animals, I would've thought 4' would be rather comfy, but since it seems 'bigger is better' is true with these guys, I'll go with 5'Lx2'x2' as that's the largest I can fit for now. I'll just design it so that an addition can be easily thrown on later if needed.
Thanks,
Brian
