sad day, one of mine has died

ceroza976 Feb 02, 2004 11:00 PM

I havn't posted in a long, long time, so i doubt anyone will remember me. I had 5 leopard geckos, 3 males and 2 females as it turned out. I found one of the females dead today, she was in a cage with a male and the other female. I cleaned the cage and all that, disinfected, but the other female isnt eating. She's very thick and alert but passes up food. The one that died was unexpected, she wasnt thin, she jsut stopped eat about a week and a half ago. Last thing she ate was a pinkie.

Anyway, any helpful suggestions woudl be appreciated. She was young too, almost 3 years old. Its a shame, and it seems to top off a terrible week for me.

Thanks alot -Sergei

i'm not an expert, but it sounds like a major problem that needs veterinary attention (for your other leos). if you have saved her body, take it to the vet as well, and they can do a necropsy to determine what happened, in order to save your other geckoes. good luck!

I know it is devastating when this happens, but it is important to know what the cause was in the event that your other geckos lives are at stake. I agree that a necropsy would be in order, and at least a fecal exam on the others. Assuming there was no outward signs of illness or injury, I have a few questions:

- What substrate do you have them on?
- was this female gravid? How about the one that is not eating now?

Sorry to derail the thread, but I was wondering about your site. I just went to it the first time yesterday. I thought it'd be cool to find a male mate for my two females. Also, I thought something other than a normal leo would make cool babies. Do you have any suggestions? I was thinking a blizzard or something like that. Do you know of any good breeders in germany? Or, do you ship internationally?
