My Ig Bit ME!

svinarsk Feb 03, 2004 12:13 AM

well I put my ig into his new enclosure, and just as I was trying to feed him some squash, he bit me. Hard! Blood everywhere! What can I do to offer him food by hand without him being scared?

Thanks

Do not let the IG know that you are afraid if you do you will be giving him the upper hand and you may never be able to feed him by hand again.OH Don't use a glove the more changes you make the more uneasy your IG will feel, Trust me. I know that IG bites are painful and with a bigger lizard can do extensive damage but just work slow and watch for his reaction, if he appears to be getting upset stop lay the food down and let it go try again tomorrow. If you do not pull back or jump ect. the IG will not feel he is getting anywhere. I do hope this helps, Just be careful and don't loose the love and respect for the animal it is only doing what it feels it has to to survive(new cage feeling threatened). I know this sounds strange but are you male or female, is the IG male, and is he oranging up yet? If the answers are male, male, and yes, this could very well be the problem. I know when mine are in season my wife has to do everthing with the males I can not even go into thier rooms or they will bob thier heads and attempt to bite.

Let us know how this turns out I am sure that he will calm back down for you soon.

Thank you
TB
