CAGING QUESTIONS

BIGGWORM Feb 03, 2004 12:51 AM

I'VE GOT MY BLOOD IN A FIVE BY THREE VISION. HE'S CURRENTLY THREE YEARS OLD AND ALMOST FIVE FEET.SERIOUSLY I DON'T POWER FEED HIM.I'LL SEND PICS WHEN I FIGURE IT OUT.HIS HEAD IS TOTALLY PREPORTIONED TO HIS BODY.ANYWAY I WAS THINKING ABOUT THOSE CAGES FROM MOONSTRUCK 4X2X12 I THINK THAT'S WAY TOO SMALL FOR A RED BLOOD (BORONGISMAI).THE VISION CAGES THAT I HAVE TAKE SO MUCH ROOM,AND MY COLLECTION KEEPS GETTING BIGGER.THE GIRLFRIEND IS'NT TOO HAPPY.YOU KNOW THE ROUTINE.SO WHAT DO YOU GUY'S SUGGEST?

Well, we keep some pretty big bloods in the 48" Freedom Breeder drawers & they thrive & breed & seem very content. Freedom Breeders are a really great way to efficiently house a large # of snakes in a smaller space. The only drawback I see with these racks in regards to keeping bloods is the ventilation, which reduces humidity a great deal. This can be easily recitified, however, by placing a piece of showerboard or plexi over the top screen & cutting it to leave however big of a gap you feel is necessary to provide an adequate amount of humidity & airflow for your animals.

Another thought would be to look into the 48" x 24" x 15" cages by Animal Plastics (can you tell I'm crazy about their caging???), which are lower profile than the Vision cages, space-wise.

Just my $.02

If money wasn't a factor I would go with animal plastic with belly heat. But moonstruck cages come with it and are shipped for $200. That's a great deal. 4' wide will be plenty big enough for a large blood.
