greek breeding

blckkat Feb 03, 2004 08:14 AM

anyone know anything about the greek tortoise? have a breeding pair in at work (an accident), and she's definitly gravid (lots of tortoise on tortoise action going on all last week). just really wanted to know how long until she lays and how long incubation is. i want to pull her and put her in the back at least a week before she lays, i want her in the proper habitat for laying, you know? i'll be taking home the eggs and incubating them myself, the store doesn't have the means to do it...

any help would be appreciated!

I don't know much about breeding, but I did look up the SPECIFICS for you... I hope some others can say wether this is right or not!

" Usually 6 to 10 eggs aare laid: Incubate them at 84 degrees and 80 to 90 percent humidity for 60 to 80 days. After the egg is pipped the hatchling may remain in the egg for as long as two to three days while absorbing the egg sac. Don't try to pull the hatchling from the egg. You can, however, keep the hatchling and the egg damp by mistingthem gently to help prevent the hatchling from sticking to the egg's memebranes or edges. Be careful not the drown the hatchling while misting it! Hatchlings usually begin eating within two days of coming out of the egg."

that's common sense information...but thanks for the effort...

I'm looking for information specifically on amount of time until she lays, and how long incubation will be...

I figured someone on Kingsnake would know...guess not...
