Question about Aberrant and Banded California Kings

the_reptilian Feb 03, 2004 12:28 PM

Do the terms aberrant and banded refer to different localities of California Kings or are they pattern and color morphs? And excuse my ignorance – If you had a male aberrant and banded female, would you only want to breed them with others of the same pattern or can you mix?

Thanks

Not localities, but pattern differences. There are some localities where you might find higher incidences of pattern aberrancies, but in general, any aberrant Cals in captivity are usually the product of folks breeding Cals with dissimilar patterns or breeding aberrant animals to other aberrants or bandeds, or striped to banded, etc.

If you breed a banded king with an aberrant king, you can get all bandeds or some bandeds and some abberant patterns or anything inbetween.

Personally, I like the banded Cal king, and it seems to me a shame that a banded albino is getting to be more of a rarity these days. So many aberrants or bandeds x banana etc out there. My vote is breed banded x banded, or striped x striped, or high white x high white, or banana x banana, etc if possible. In the end though, you may do what you like. The kings don't care either way.
