cage nose problem

gorgon1953 Feb 03, 2004 01:13 PM

I have a small armadillo lizard which finally lost a large piece of the end of it's snout (1 1/2mm between end of snout and nostrils which included small bone structure at snout tip). I got this lizard a few days ago and noticed a small scab when I picked the lizard up...typical cage nose, but today the scab came off with the entire snout structure and my question is does anyone know if this will threaten the life of the lizard and what care can be given. The Animal is now off food and water but in a large and well heated enclosure which it ambulates around without apparent problem.

Your Armadillo lizard's description does not sound good. I would suggest to get it to a vet ASAP.

...am snowed in here and not within 100 miles of any vet which treats lizard problems.Any interim help would be appreciated.

If you can, apply Neo/Polysporin to the area. Make sure the lizard is eating & provide water. Keep the temps in the upper limits prescribed for Armadillo lizards & provide water. Pls. e-mail me direct via kingsnake.com if you are still having problems.
