jpenny, a question

eliotstone Feb 03, 2004 01:36 PM

You said that you had been hunting the cuts between leakey and camp wood, if i remember correctly, what all did you find if you don't mind me asking, because, well, i think it would be better to hunt places that people normally don't. this summer i will doing a lot of collecting on ranches and north of brackettville and also near bandera north of hondo. So i would like to know what all you have caught outside of west texas because that is the only place i have ever collected.
thanks,
eliot

Lets see, if I remember correctly, last year North of Brackettville I found (common names) quite-a-few Bullsnakes, coachwhips, night snakes, glossy snakes, Diamondbacks, lots o' garter snakes, 1 DOR Rock Rattler and 1 DOR Mex Milk. I may have forgotton some things but thats what I remember right off the top of my head. No alterna unfortunately but I only hunted it 3 times and just for a couple of hours each time. You've got good habitat to the North of you and to the South, towards Eagle Pass. The road towards Eagle Pass looks good for annulata so I may give that a shot this year too. I found this one South of us last year. I personally like them better than alterna because they aren't such finicky eaters. Holler at me sometime this spring if you wanna go...

If you would like to go out on some ranches to collect, i have already received permisson from several land owners north and west of Brackettville. I even have permission to collect on a ranch twenty miles north of comstock on juno road. Just stay in touch on this forum, i check it almost everyday
