Male Mail stealing warm spot from female. Questions

ChicoB Feb 03, 2004 03:36 PM

Hi everybody!
I read a while ago to look out for sighns of agression if housing a male and female Mali togeather. Is the male stealing all the heat one of thoes sighns of agression? The pamflet i read didnt really specify and i havent read anything else about what exactly agression is considered. I'm glad i just found this place.
Also- I got my Malis from a friend who didnt have time to take care of them anymore and the females tail is missing all of its spikes like they rotted away or something and sh cant bend her tail. Is there something extra i need to do for her?
If i installed a second basking spot do you think the male would leave her alone?

I dont know about the tail except if it is bleeding you could put tthe neosporin ointment (not creme)and the male stealing the warm spot ios normal from what ive heard its just something territorial it wouldnt be a bad idea to add an extra basking spot but i only have one high spot and one low one an dthey seem to let each other bask equally

It sounds like she's suffered from "tail rot". That is where an infection occurs because of wetness (usually water from bathing or excess humidity) trapped between the tail spikes. The spikes basically rot away and fall off.

I am dealing with the same problem. Stanley is a rescue. When I received him he had no spikes and scar tissue along the top of his tail. The question I am getting to is do the spikes grow back or am I going to have a Mali with an inferiority complex??

The Spikes Wont Grow Back my female mali was an import and somehow part of her tail got bit or broke and now that 2 inches or so is gone and she has a stub tail if there is scar tissue on the tail it sounds like it healed up ok
